The Texas Teacher STaR Chart: Educator Preparation and Development

I think that the Texas Teacher STaR Chart is a very useful tool in helping teachers to integrate technology effectively across the curriculum. In fact, the Texas Teacher STaR Chart assists teachers in determining professional development needs based on a current educational technology proļ¬le. Also, the Texas Teacher STaR Chart helps conceptualize the campus or district vision of technology as well as assisting campuses in documenting the use of No Child Left Behind and discretionary funds.
The chart is composed of four areas of the new long plan which show levels of progress ranging from Early Tech to Target Tech. The area that caught my attention the most is the area of Educator preparation and development. The campus statewide summary shows that developing tech and advanced tech for educator preparation and development increased from the previous year. In fact, in the 2007-2008 school year the developing tech for the campus statewide jumped from 74% to 74.2%. Also, the advanced technology for the same area increased from 17% to 19.9% during the same year.
Furthermore, locally within our campus we increased in educator preparation and development from 10 points to 12 during the 2007-2008 school year. My recommendation for improving this area in my campus will be to use more technology for administrative tasks, classroom management, and the use of online resources. Having our campus educators to implement more the use of technology will increase academic achievement for every student.
